The Reseller's Guide to Holiday Season Selling
Share
Holiday season is the highest-stakes selling window of the year for most resellers — highest demand, but also the tightest shipping deadlines and most competition. Here's how to plan for it.
What sells during the holidays
- Coats, sweaters, and outerwear — the clearest seasonal category bump of the year
- Gift-appropriate pieces — accessories, statement items, anything that photographs as a good gift
- Cozy/loungewear, which sees a real bump around the holidays specifically
List early, not during peak week
Listings need time to get discovered, shared, and indexed by search — something listed the week before Christmas has far less runway than something listed in early November. Aim to have holiday-relevant inventory fully listed by early-to-mid November.
Watch your shipping cutoffs
Set (and clearly communicate) your own personal shipping cutoff date well ahead of the carriers' official last-shipping-day guidance, since carrier delays are common during peak holiday volume and a buyer who doesn't get a gift on time is a guaranteed dispute.
Expect a post-holiday lull, then a January bump
Sales often dip right after Christmas, then pick back up in January as gift cards get spent and New Year motivation kicks in — plan cash flow and restocking around that pattern rather than assuming December's pace continues.
The bottom line
List early, communicate shipping cutoffs clearly, and expect the January bump — holiday selling rewards preparation far more than it rewards reacting in the moment.
