Bulk vs Pallet vs Container: How Wholesale Clothing Buying Actually Scales
A single pack, a pallet, and a full container are three very different orders. Here's how the scale changes what you're actually buying and how it ships.

“Wholesale” covers an enormous range of order sizes, and the terminology can get confusing fast. Here's what actually separates a standard pack order from a pallet order from a full container.
Single packs: a few dozen pieces at a time
This is where most individual resellers operate — a category or mixed pack, shipped via standard parcel carrier (UPS, FedEx), usually arriving within a few days. Pricing is per pack, often with volume discounts at 2, 3, 5, or more packs.
Pallets: hundreds to low thousands of pieces
A step up in volume, typically shipped via freight rather than parcel carrier since the weight and size exceed standard shipping limits. Pallets are usually the right level for a reseller running multiple sales channels or a small storefront, not someone listing individually on one marketplace account.
Containers: tens of thousands of pieces
The largest scale, typically 20-foot or 40-foot ocean containers, aimed at businesses supplying other retailers, running large-scale export operations, or stocking multiple physical storefronts. Pricing and logistics at this level are usually quoted individually rather than listed at a fixed price, since container contents and shipping routes vary significantly deal to deal.
What changes as you scale up
Per-piece cost generally drops as volume increases, but so does your ability to inspect what you're buying before it ships — a single pack is easy to evaluate against photos and a stated grade; a container is a much bigger trust exercise in the supplier's grading consistency. It's worth building a relationship at the pack level first before scaling into pallet or container orders with a new supplier.
Local pickup and regional considerations
Pallet buyers based near a supplier's fulfillment hub sometimes have the option of local pickup to save on freight cost — worth asking directly if you're near a supplier's warehouse, since it isn't always advertised. Our fulfillment runs out of Miami, which is worth knowing if you're a South Florida-based reseller looking at pallet-level orders; more on that in Wholesale Pallet Clothing Near Miami.
